I am a proud Nigerian, and like many of my fellow citizens, I hold the values and ethics of our nation in high regard. It is with a heavy heart that I address an issue that strikes at the core of our national integrity. It has come to light that Ezra Olubi, a member of the Order of Nigeria, has a disturbing past that has recently been exposed through his own tweets, which advocate for pedophilia and bestiality. Such behavior and beliefs are fundamentally incompatible with the values that our great nation stands for, and it is inconceivable that an individual with such a history retains the honor of the Order of Nigeria.

The Order of Nigeria is one of the most prestigious recognition our country can bestow upon an individual, an emblem of the esteemed values of honor, integrity, and service to the country. It is a symbol of respect, dedicated to those who demonstrate the highest ideals of our society; such a prestigious honor should not be tarnished by individuals who do not meet these standards.

Was the awarding of this honor to Mr. Olubi thoroughly vetted? Did the committee responsible for awarding this recognition miss this information, or was it disregarded? These questions need to be answered, but what is clear is that his past actions must lead to immediate consequences. It’s imperative that the Nigerian government act decisively to maintain the sanctity of this esteemed honor by revoking Olubi’s membership and issuing a statement condemning the advocacy of such egregious behavior.

Furthermore, this situation highlights the need for a review and enhancement of the vetting process for national honors, ensuring that recipients truly embody the values they are celebrated for.

Let us not allow such a mar on the fabric of our society. We, as a nation, must hold our symbols of honor to a higher standard and ensure they are represented by individuals who genuinely reflect the admirable values we strive to uphold.
