Revoke the Lorin A. Burt Award from Dr. Sharon Shirley

The Issue

The school district to which she runs (Lake Ridge New Tech) has an all-time high in fights and lacks in so many educational opportunities, it's not even funny. Academic-year to academic-year, I have seen programs such as the bus program and many after-school clubs hang on by a thread because of her choices. There has been public accounts of not only the local sheriff department having to be called at the high school, but police departments from multiple townships -- all to deescalate a fight that occurred on school grounds. Teachers are not allowed to handle the students in ways which are quite appropriate, which has caused individuals to provoke bodily harm upon the staff (and students) that reside in her district's care. In the last year alone, she has gained the district over $500,000 in creating a partnership with the Hard Rock Casino, and carried about 10% of the existing funds of the district into the next fiscal year (amounting to about an extra $340,000+). That money was said to be put into school repairs and projects, but realistically, only a small amount of that cash has been put towards said promises, where the rest has been allocated to thin air.

The only reason she earned this award is by keeping an "outstanding" performance of being an educator that contributes nothing to the district she runs. Nobody often says nothing about this because they believe their voice isn't worth the time; the voice of the public and its district is what changes our local education, one step at a time. I am a graduate of her district, so what I'm saying are either first accounts from my years under the district's education, or active conversations that I've had with the people of the unincorporated township this district resides in. I have been sent away to another school district for the majority of the elementary years because of a report that needed to be file to the state, and I was only one of several that had to file the same report -- they were in our favor in the end, because even the state believed that the district lacked the care that was required for those students.

I am requesting that a petition be signed for this honor to be revoked by the IAPSS , the association that has handed her this award and for this post to be shared by others that have felt this way for many years about her and her position.
