Revoke the Ban on Gender Affirming Care for Trans Kids in North Carolina

The Issue

I am a trans child living in North Carolina. My identity is male, but society misidentifies me because my biological sex is female. I am suicidal and I know of numerous other trans kids who are as well. Every time I look at myself, it's a reminder of a reality that isn't mine - I see breasts instead of a flat chest, I hear a voice that doesn't match who I am, and I am denied the chance to fully align my outsides with the man I am on the inside. All of this because of a ban that prevents us from accessing crucial gender affirming care - hormone blockers and opposite sex hormones (testosterone and estrogen).

Data indicate that 82% of transgender individuals have considered killing themselves and 40% have attempted suicide, with suicidality being highest among transgender youth. The chances of creating a safe and healthy environment for trans children like myself significantly increase when we have access to gender affirming care. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, access to puberty blocking medications and opposite sex hormones can lower the risks of suicide and mental health issues amongst trans youth.

This is why we must revoke the ban on such vital medical treatments for trans kids in North Carolina. We require your broad support, as this issue impacts not only trans children, but also presents an opportunity for society to exhibit compassion and acceptance. It's about transforming North Carolina into a state that respects and promotes the health and well-being of all its residents, regardless of gender identity. Join us in pushing for a change that could literally save lives. Please, sign this petition.
