Revoke Silvan Chafiie as Beneficiary of Dr. Samantha Murray’s Memorial Fund

The Issue

In 2021, Leighanne Murray set up a GoFundMe fundraiser after losing her Aunt Samantha very suddenly to COVID-19. In shock and feeling powerless, she created the fundraiser as a way to do something proactive and positive. Her goal was to use the money to place a memorial bench in her honor, turn Samantha’s ashes into a diamond, and donate to the intensive care unit that provided her with excellent care during the pandemic.

Samantha’s husband, Silvan Chafiie, requested to be the beneficiary of the GoFundMe memorial fundraiser in 2021. Since then, the funds have not been donated towards the intended causes: the memorial bench, the donation to the hospital, or reimbursing the family for the creation of a diamond from Samantha's ashes.

Therefore, Leighanne and the Murray family are petitioning to revoke Silvan as the beneficiary and transfer the full funds to Leighanne so that the money can be donated immediately and appropriately. Despite ongoing discussions with Silvan and support from GoFundMe, there has been no resolution.

As a last resort, we need your help. Donors, friends, family, and beyond, please sign the petition to support transferring the funds. We have waited long enough, and we finally want a memorial for Sammie, in London where her family and friends can visit and remember her.
