The Issue

Four young and promising lives were taken away abruptly and brutally. Ethan Chapin, aged 20, from Conway, Washington; Kaylee Goncalves, 21, of Rathdrum, Idaho; Xana Kernodle, originally from Avondale, Arizona, and later of Post Falls, Idaho; and Madison Mogen, 21, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, were once vibrant students at the University of Idaho. They had their whole futures ahead of them. Ethan, a freshman; Xana, a junior; and Kaylee and Madison, seniors - ready to take the world by storm.

These precious souls and promising futures can never be restored. Their families suffer unimaginable grief. Bryan Kohberger, the evil coward who committed this unfathomable act of violence, is now poised to receive a plea deal, a legal concession that is incomprehensible considering the heinous nature of this crime.

A plea deal, once approved, would mean reduced accountability and consequences for actions that have forever altered the lives of countless individuals. Such leniency undermines the justice process that Ethan, Kaylee, Xana, Madison, and their families deserve. The scars of their loss will remain forever, and allowing their case to be brushed off with a compromise sends the wrong message to society.

Revoking the plea deal would reinforce our commitment to justice and the idea that such grave actions must meet their deserved consequences. The prosecutor must reconsider this decision before the judge signs off on it at 11am tomorrow, July 2nd, 2025. It is not just about punishment, but about standing against such brutality.

Ethan, Kaylee, Xana, and Madison's lives must be honored, and their memory should fuel a quest for complete and unwavering justice.

Please SIGN and SHARE this petition to urge the prosecutors to revoke the plea deal offered to this monster. Let us honor the victims and ensure their legacy mandates responsibility be taken by Bryan - the deplorable barbarian responsible for their cruel and premeditated deaths.

“Goncalves family blasted prosecutors’ “very unexpected” decision in a short social media post, writing, “We are beyond furious at the State of Idaho. They have failed us.”

Thompson told CNN his office could not comment on news of the plea deal because of the wide-ranging gag order in the case. He defended the deal in the letter to the Goncalves family as “our sincere attempt to seek justice for your family,” arguing it will ensure Kohberger “will spend the rest of his life in prison,” according to the Idaho Statesman.

In a lengthier statement posted by the Goncalves family, Kaylee’s 18-year-old sister Aubrie took issue with the suddenness of the deal after a painfully long legal process, calling it “both shocking and cruel” to bring it to the families “just weeks before the scheduled trial.”

“Had this proposal come a year and a half ago, the families could have had time to process, discuss, and potentially come to terms with the idea of a life sentence – however difficult that may be,” the statement said.

Goncalves’ sister said her family is “not asking for vengeance” but casts the possibility of life in prison as an unfair outcome.

“Bryan Kohberger facing a life in prison means he would still get to speak, form relationships, and engage with the world. Meanwhile, our loved ones have been silenced forever,” she wrote.“
