Revive and Launch the British Lunar Spacesuit for the First UKSA Lunar Expedition

The issue

I have always been fascinated by space, drawn especially to the charm and ingenuity of the British lunar spacesuit developed by the British Interplanetary Society (BIS). This affection, I imagine, is shared by numerous other enthusiasts and scientists. Yet, despite its brilliant design and the promise it held, this suit never made it to the moon. The disappointment I felt resonated within me, prompting the submission of this petition.

Our goal is to implore our government and the United Kingdom Space Agency (UKSA) to revive the British lunar spacesuit and its mission. This initiative would not only fulfill a long-held dream but also contribute to our nation's scientific accomplishments and global prestige.

Currently, the United States boasts the achievement of having carried out all the manned moon landings that have taken place so far. However, the potential of the UKSA backed by our national prowess could break new grounds in space exploration. A 2017 report stated that the UK space industry had grown an average of 8.8% annually over the previous decade, nearly three times faster than the rest of the UK economy (SQW, 2018) - a trend that speaks volumes about our resources and potential.

As a nation with a rich scientific and technological heritage, it is time that we take our place on the lunar stage. This would open doors to new opportunities, stimulate innovations, and inspire another generation of British scientists, engineers, and enthusiasts. Therefore, we respectfully request that the BIS' lunar spacesuit be redeployed and that the UKSA facilitate the first British lunar expedition.

Please sign this petition, let us compromise no more on our dreams and ambitions. Let's kick start a new era of UK space exploration.
