Hello fellow petition supporters,
It's clear our voices are being heard by our politicians and city staff but we have to keep applying pressure to the stakeholders within the city to make them understand we are opposed to Toronto Humber Yacht Club having their lease renewed for another 20 year.
Please take a moment to share our petition with friends and family asking for they support. If you have a spare moment please email the individuals above and ask for there support in ensure Toronto Humber Yacht Club's lease is not renewed. You might even suggest the space be turned into a paddling club so others can enjoy access to the peace and tranquility the Humber can provide.
The Humber River is a treasure in the middle of the city and it's beauty should be safeguarded for all citizens to enjoy. Not only is it beautiful but it also provides as safe habitat for urban wildlife to thrive. I've seen deer, mink, muskrat, river otters, rabbits, raccoons, foxes, coyotes, squirrels, chipmunks, Bald Eagles, Osprey, Green Heron, Great Blue Heron, Egrets, cootes, Great Horned Owls (and more birds than I can name here), snapping turtles, painted turtles, salamanders, and more.
Over the last seven or eight years the Toronto Humber Yacht Club has completely ignored it's duty to protect the land it occupies, instead choosing to cover the vast majority of the property with hardscape to increase boat storage in the winter. It should be noted they did this so they could offer boat storage for non-club members. In addition to paving over the property the club has also clear cut woodland adjacent to the property to increase boat storage. They have completely covered over the shoreline they occupy in hardscape in order to erect gazebos and in the process not only created an eyesore but also destroyed a once thriving turtle hatchery and ground bird nesting area.
In addition to the misuse of the public lands they have been privileged to occupy, the Toronto Humber Yacht Club continues to add more docks to the shoreline. It seems they are doing so to increase the number of JetSkis that can dock there. Not only are JetSkis bad for the environment but they pose a safety risk to other river uses as typically JetSki operators race up and down the river with complete disregard to the safety of others on the water.
Once again, thank you for your support!!!
