Hello fellow petition supporters,
I'm sharing my latest email to city politicians and city staff who I believe are most likely responsible for the review/renewal process for Toronto Humber Yacht Clubs 20 year lease renewal.
If you have not already, please share far and wide to your friends and family asking for their support. If you have a story involving personal experiences with THYC or their members please share on our petition page.
If you can go the extra step and reach out to the stakeholders personally to share your discontent with the lease being renewed that would also help.
Thanks again for your support!

Hello all,
As the silence for Toronto politicians, bureaucrats and city staff remains deafening regarding the process and timelines for reviewing/renewing Toronto Humber Yacht Club's lease for 20 years the voters of Toronto are starting to speakout in what limited ways we can in the secretive/opaque happenings in City Hall.
Our petition has just passed 1,200 signatures. I'm sure had I not fallen for the miscommunication from Councilor Morley's staff and/or believed the false promise of public consultations from Thomas Kakamousias, made it September '24, there would be far more as I would not have stayed silent until May '25 when these miscommunications and false promises where revealed.
I'm sure you are too busy trying to come up with justifications for renewing THYC's lease, as the city has a long history of serving the wants of private for profit entities over improving the quality of life for its citizens, so I'll share a few comments from petition supporters here.
These are a minute sample of the stories I hear regarding the negative effect the club and its members have on the environment and public enjoyment of the Humber River. I'm sure the reason public consultations were blocked by the city is because city staff know full well the club is no longer wanted in the community and they want to suppress that fact as much as possible before they rubber stamp the 20 year lease renewal.

There should be an investigation into how this club has managed to operate for so long. In addition to the well-documented environmental abuses, the HYC is a public safety hazard and probably a liability for the city. Myself and others have been verbally harassed by patrons and the owner himself on several occasions. Worse, many club members show a blatant disregard for the safety of those in kayaks and canoes. Last year, my young child and I had our canoe capsized by the wake of a large yacht that was being erratically piloted by someone who was clearly intoxicated. I have trouble understanding how the benefits of this place existing could possibly outweigh the risks for the city. Ending the lease should be a no-brainer.

Disturbing natural ravines and flood plains without a TRCA permit is a very serious matter. In my experience as a civil Engineer on many projects, even minimal disturbance is considered a major offence if done without a permit in ravines, let alone major works completed by THYC without permits and with what appears to be full impunity is disturbing the least to say. To add insult to injury, the THYS used environmentally non-compliant material in their expansion projects. Please do not renew their lease. The City and the TRCA would be complicit in the irreparable damage caused to a natural habitat.
