Revisit Grey Canal Trailhead Parking Lot Project with Greater Transparency & Public Input
Revisit Grey Canal Trailhead Parking Lot Project with Greater Transparency & Public Input
The Issue
The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO), in partnership with the District of Coldstream, is proceeding with the construction of an approximately 30-stall parking lot at the Grey Canal Trail trailhead (at the west end of Cypress Drive in Coldstream).
Many local residents only learned about this project after key decisions had already been made. There was no signage at the trailhead, no direct notification to nearby residents, and little publicly available information explaining the project's purpose, supporting data, or potential impacts.
This petition is not intended to oppose responsible investment in our parks and trails. Rather, it asks that the RDNO and the District of Coldstream pause and revisit this project through a more transparent public process.
Residents deserve the opportunity to:
- Understand the evidence supporting the need for a significantly larger parking facility.
- Review how the project may affect the Grey Canal Trail and surrounding neighbourhood.
- Discuss potential impacts on pedestrians, families, seniors, and other trail users.
- Ask questions, consider alternatives, and provide meaningful feedback before construction proceeds.
Good public planning depends on openness, transparency, and community engagement—particularly when projects have lasting impacts on established neighbourhoods and cherished public spaces.
We respectfully ask the RDNO and the District of Coldstream to revisit this project with greater transparency and meaningful public consultation before moving forward.
Please Sign this petition if you believe:
The District of Coldstream and the Regional District of North Okanagan should revisit the Grey Canal Trailhead parking lot project through a more transparent process that includes meaningful public consultation before construction proceeds.
Thank you!
