The Issue

In my journey as a young researcher and now as an Assistant Professor, I've devoted countless hours guiding postgraduate students through the rigorous processes of research and publication. This endeavor isn't a solitary one; it's a collaborative commitment that often involves multiple residents and contributions across various departments. The current policy by the National Medical Commission (NMC), which restricts authorship credit to the first three authors in faculty publications, threatens to undermine the essence of such collaborative efforts.

Modern medical research thrives on interdisciplinary and multicentric collaboration. This approach is crucial for tackling complex health challenges and innovating care solutions. By failing to recognize and appropriately credit all contributors, the policy not only demotivates researchers but also risks stifling future advancements in medical science.

Given that contemporary studies often involve a substantial number of contributors, limiting recognition to only three individuals distorts the true collaborative nature and effort behind medical research. It is pivotal to reform this policy to reflect and encourage the real-world dynamics of research collaborations.

I urge the National Medical Commission to revise this policy to allow due authorship credit for all significant contributors. Such a change will ensure fair recognition, foster teamwork, and fuel future innovations. By amending this policy, the NMC can safeguard the integrity and growth of medical research in our country.

Let's advocate for a fair and accommodating authorship policy that acknowledges every valued contribution in medical research. Sign this petition to support the call for change and advance the spirit of collective research endeavor within the medical community.
