Revise unfair capstone policy impacting students

Revise unfair capstone policy impacting students
The Issue
I have worked incredibly hard to reach this point in my academic journey, balancing a demanding schedule of school, clinicals, work, and family commitments. It is deeply disheartening to face the possibility of having to repeat an entire semester due to failing a skills check-off, especially when I have passed all other aspects of the class. This does not accurately reflect my dedication, effort, or capability as a committed future nurse.
The current Capstone policy, requiring students who fail a skills check-off twice to retake the entire semester, imposes an undue financial and academic burden. Many students, like myself, invest significant time, money, and emotional energy into their education, and this policy disregards their hard work and sacrifices. In today's world, where financial constraints weigh heavily on students, repeating a whole semester due to a single skills check-off can exacerbate stress and impede our progress.
I propose a more equitable solution: allow students to retake only the specific skills they have failed, and pay solely for those portions requiring remediation, not the entire course. This change will not only relieve financial pressure but also ensure that students are evaluated and assisted based on their actual performance needs. Subsequent statistics on student success could reveal a higher retention and graduation rate, reflecting a policy that truly supports student achievement and well-being.
Revising this policy is crucial, not only for current students but also for future cohorts who will benefit from a fairer, more supportive educational environment. Let's build an academic setting where dedicated students receive the recognition and resources they deserve, fostering their growth into competent and compassionate professionals.
I urge the [Director/Dean] to consider this petition seriously and implement the necessary changes for the betterment of our educational system. Join me in supporting this call for policy revision by signing this petition. Together, we can create a positive change that aligns with the true spirit of education: nurturing potential, not penalizing setbacks.
