Revise the New Parking Policy to prioritize MNP Members over other traffic

The Issue

The Issue: We, the undersigned members of MNP Community & Sport Centre, oppose the new parking restrictions (3 hours weekdays / 2 hours evenings and weekends). While we understand the need to control unauthorized parking by downtown commuters, MNP and Stampede event attendees, and nearby high-school students,  this "one-size-fits-all" approach unfairly penalizes loyal, paying members.

This policy fails on three fronts:

  1. It creates a financial barrier: For a member who trains 4 times a week and stays just 15 minutes over the limit, this policy effectively raises their annual membership cost by hundreds of dollars.
  2. It hinders athletic performance: A 2-hour window is insufficient for high-performance training, classes, or a complete wellness routine (workout + recovery/shower). Members should not be forced to rush their health.
  3. It targets the wrong group: The parking congestion is caused by non-members utilizing the lot for MNP and Stampede events, downtown commuting and nearby high-school students. Members should not bear the burden of solving a public trespassing issue.

Technology exists to solve this without penalizing members. The new CPA license plate scanning system could easily have members plates registered that would allow unlimited (or significantly extended) parking for active members, while still allowing MNP to ticket unauthorized users. There is also no reason to limit members after 8pm.

Request: We request that MNP Management immediately halt the implementation of the new parking time limits and engage in consultation with the membership to implement a system that validates member parking (such as plate registration) rather than restricting it.
