Revise tenant and eviction laws fight against deceptive practices
The Issue
Many families find themselves battling the very people who are supposed to provide shelter. Unfortunately, many family's experiences with a Texas apartment complex has been a nightmare because of deceptive practices during eviction proceedings. Many families are faced with dishonest testimonies from apartment office employees who lie under oath. Improper delivery of notices to vacates are one reasons cases get dismiss, and the apartments not showing up at all to court, or improper record keeping, however, these cases are far and few between. Texas eviction process moves very quick allowing limited time for tenants to defend their case. As of 2026 new laws have been implemented to shorten the timeline even more. The system has allowed the apartments and their managing companies to take full advantage by using unjustifiable tactics. Allowing families to live in uninhabitable conditions. Despite winning an eviction case, this will leave wrongful evictions on your criminal background record. This unfair record has sabotaged many families a chance of securing future housing.
The unfortunate reality is that this is not unique. Families across Texas and beyond are subjected to unethical practices where apartment employees lie under oath during eviction court proceedings. These actions lead to unjust housing instability, financial strain, and long-term repercussions on people’s legal records. The system is flawed, with tenants often powerless against big property management companies.
It's time for a change. We call upon Texas lawmakers to review and revise eviction laws to ensure greater transparency and accountability during eviction processes. There should be a legal mandate for detailed and time-stamped documentation regarding eviction notices and any changes thereafter. Moreover, strict penalties should be imposed on apartment employees and management companies who are caught engaging in fraudulent practices. Witnesses and evidence should be scrutinized rigorously during eviction hearings to ensure fairness and justice. We also need a process to either expunge or seal these cases to avoid housing instability. We need stricter regulations and penalties for apartments who continue to ignore major maintenance issues putting many families health at risk.
By implementing these changes, we can protect families from wrongful evictions and uninhabitable living ensure that justice prevails. My family, along with thousands of others, need these safeguards to prevent future injustices and hold accountable those who abuse their power in the housing industry.
Please sign this petition to urge our lawmakers to act swiftly in addressing these critical issues. Together, let's advocate for the dignity and rights of tenants across Texas, ensuring that justice and transparency prevail in our eviction laws. Your signature can help prevent deceitful practices and protect vulnerable families from unwarranted evictions or homelessness.
