Revise reservation policies to support the truly needy
The Issue
Imagine a world where rights were determined at birth, shackling individuals to identities beyond their control. This stark reality is faced by many today. The current reservation system, primarily based on caste, does not address the deeper, more pressing needs of diverse groups who are equally deserving yet continue to face systemic discrimination. Among these groups are all categories of women, kinnars, and individuals with disabilities from birth.
Women, despite being strong and capable, still fall prey to societal and systemic biases that deny them equal rights and opportunities. Reserved seats in education and employment are essential to ensure that women, in all their diversity, can claim their rightful place alongside men.
Kinnars or transgender individuals, historically marginalized and stripped of their rights due to societal prejudices based on biological determinism, must be included in reservations. It’s a matter of human dignity and equality. Providing them opportunities within the reservation framework can empower them to live without fear and discrimination.
Persons with disabilities often encounter immense barriers right from birth. These obstacles permeate education, employment, and basic societal interactions. The reservation system should tangibly support them, prioritizing their unique challenges, and offering real solutions to help them achieve equality in society.
These systemic revisions are not about favoring any particular group; instead, they aim at creating a balanced society where prejudices based on birth no longer dictate one’s destiny. Caste-based reservations have limited power in addressing the nuanced struggles faced by these groups.
In our fight to end casteism, foeticides, dowry systems, rapes, gender discrimination, and caste-based violence, the focus should be on fostering a common national identity that supersedes caste boundaries. Modifying the reservation system to prioritize socio-economic factors over caste will lay down the foundation for a more egalitarian society.
I urge the government to revisit and revise the reservation policies to incorporate these changes. By signing this petition, you can be instrumental in shaping a future where rights are based on true need rather than mere birth traits. Together, we can strive towards a society that values equality and justice for all. Please sign this petition to lend your support in building a fairer world for everyone.
