Hi all,

I hope you all had a happy new year.

I wanted to address the comment left below the petition and respond with a simplified version of the petition details :)

I’ve experienced tech-abuse and stalking after leaving a relationship, and the law has constantly let me down. Even though I’ve reported my abuser to the police, they can’t take action because of a rule that states there must be more than one incident of stalking within three months. This means that if incidents occur every four months, no legal consequences are warranted. This abuse has continued for over two years now and has caused a plethora of stress induced illnesses. It has taken a mental and physical toll on my everyday life and the abuse seems to be never-ending despite no longer being in the relationship.

Social media and technology have made it easier for abusers to harass, control, and stalk. Our laws haven’t kept up with how these crimes happen.

I’ve had to give up my freedom to stay safe. I’ve lost social networks, support, and the ability to feel secure online. Many others like me feel trapped because the abuse never really stops, even after leaving the relationship.

I’m asking for this to change. We need laws that protect victims of online abuse. Specifically, the rule about needing multiple incidents within three months must go - especially when there’s proof of ongoing harm and repeated historical coercive control.

My email is estelle.marufu@yahoo.com and I would be happy to answer any enquiries or questions regarding the petition. My mission is to spread awareness to these areas of abuse that individuals without direct experience wouldn’t know existed.
