Revise Discord's 2FA Policy to Prevent Unjust Account Lockouts

Revise Discord's 2FA Policy to Prevent Unjust Account Lockouts
The Issue
The Discord 2FA Lockout Breakdown
Discord's Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) system is intended to protect user accounts. However, the current policy has led to countless users being unjustly locked out of their accounts, causing significant personal and professional losses. We demand that Discord revise its 2FA policy to include a robust account recovery process that ensures legitimate users can regain access to their accounts.
I myself and many others have been a dedicated Discord user since January 15, 2018, and a loyal Nitro subscriber for several years. In June 2023, after replacing my phone, I lost access to my authenticator app and subsequently my Discord account. Despite having the same phone number and multiple ways to verify my identity, including all possible forms of identification and connections, I have been unable to regain access to my account.
The impact of this lockout has been devastating. I have lost access to important contacts, servers, and information, including my company's server. Furthermore, despite being locked out, I was still charged for my Nitro subscription. When I realized I could not cancel it through the usual channels due to the lockout, I had to cancel my card to stop the charges. My repeated attempts to contact customer service have resulted in nothing but automated responses, with no real solutions offered.
I am not alone in this struggle and maybe even you have been subjected to this. Countless users have experienced similar issues with Discord's 2FA policy. The inability to recover accounts, despite providing comprehensive proof of ownership, is a significant flaw in Discord's security and customer service protocols and does not meet with today's leading companies with 2FA such as Nintendo, Electronics Arts, Twitch, and Steam. This has caused users to lose valuable business and personal connections and has forced them to start from scratch.
THIS IS WHAT WE THE COMMUNITY WANT CHANGED
1. Implementation of a Robust Account Recovery Process
Discord should create a comprehensive account recovery process that allows users to regain access to their accounts when they can clearly prove their identity.
2. Improve Customer Service
Discord's customer service should be responsive and provide real solutions to users' issues instead of automated responses or a copy and pasted script to every user.
3. Reevaluate 2FA Requirements
Users should not be forced to enable 2FA if they are against it. If enabled, there should be clear and accessible methods for recovery in case of loss of access.
4. Restoration of 2FA Lockout victims
All of discord users that have been waiting upwards of years for change and have left discord's platform as a cause should be notified of this change if they have sent a ticket to discord's support letting them know they can finally go back to their beloved accounts.
How The Community Can Help?
Sign this petition to urge Discord Inc. and its CEO, Jason Citron, to revise their 2FA policy and implement a fair and just account recovery process. Together, we can ensure that loyal users are not unjustly locked out of their accounts and that their voices are heard.
Our accounts hold a significant part of our lives, including business connections, friendships, and important information. It is unjust for users to lose access to their accounts due to an inflexible 2FA policy. By signing this petition, you are supporting a call for justice and fairness in Discord's 2FA policy. Let’s make Discord a platform that truly values and protects its users.
