The recent changes to the Abington Senior High School (ASHS) schedule have left many students, especially seniors, feeling frustrated and disheartened. For the past three years, we were promised certain senior privileges that recognized our hard work and dedication as we approached the culmination of our high school journey. These privileges were not just perks but vital components in preparing us for the transition to adulthood and higher education.

The new schedule has significantly altered these promised privileges, which has a profound impact on the senior experience. From long-standing traditions such as senior free periods to more personalized interactions with teachers, these privileges offered us the flexibility to manage our academic and personal lives effectively. Additionally, the new inflexible schedule that incorporates three periods of lunch disrupts the school day, leaving students with limited opportunities to socialize and build meaningful connections with peers and educators.

Senior privileges did more than lighten the academic load; they fostered a sense of independence, responsibility, and community among students. By taking them away, we risk disengaging a student body that thrives on autonomy and direct engagement with guiding mentors in our educational journey.

We believe there is room for compromise. We ask the school administration to revisit the new schedule, consider the adverse impacts on students, and reinstate the senior privileges that were promised.
