As I’m sure many others will have been shaken this evening by the despicable neglect of baby Asiah. Watching the news break of this innocent child’s plight left me in shock at the leniency of her sentence.

I appreciate Verphy may be young. However, she had the level of intelligence and manipulation to lie about this poor child’s whereabouts and party on end for days. As a mother, I couldn’t imagine to think the suffering this child went through. It’s abhorrent.

I plead with the Attorney General, the Prime Minister and the Home Secretary directly to find it in the public interest for this heinous crime to be reviewed. After all, what precedent does this create? Particularly at times as now where it is accepted that children are more vulnerable than ever before.

Another point, why was this not a murder charge? Surely, it would be foreseeable that leaving a child alone for 5 days would result in death. As such, pre meditated?

Either way, a 9 year sentence that she will likely only serve half is just not justice for this poor child.
