The Issue

Muriel Battle High School in Columbia, Missouri, deserves a leader who fosters an inclusive, respectful, and supportive environment for all students and staff. Dr. Galbreath, the current principal, has not only failed to uphold these fundamental values but has also been accused of behavior that undermines the core principles of education.

Several alarming reports have emerged from the school community, highlighting Dr. Galbreath's discriminatory practices, particularly against LGBTQ+ students and those who are not involved in sports. She has seen students with dyed hair and questioned why they wouldn't "attend the LGBT meetings" (referring to GSA), enforcing stereotypes and effectively pigeon-holing her students. Additionally, she is frequently accused of making discriminatory remarks against different races within our building and has even been heard saying things like "Superbowl halftime shows should be done in English". Such discrimination goes against the very ethos of providing a safe and supportive learning environment for every student. Furthermore, the principal's apparent inability to learn and use student names, her targeted behavior towards teachers and students, and the general atmosphere of disrespect and rudeness she cultivates have significantly impacted the school climate.

Dr. Galbreath's leadership style and her interactions with students and faculty have led to a toxic school environment. Teachers and students alike have expressed that they feel disrespected and undervalued under her administration, detracting from the educational experience and well-being of the school community.

In light of these concerns, we call upon the school board and the district administration to conduct a thorough review of Dr. Galbreath's leadership and its impact on Muriel Battle High School. If these issues are found to be substantiated, we urge that appropriate actions be taken, up to and including her removal from her position, to safeguard the best interests of the students, staff, and the overall academic environment.

By signing this petition, you are advocating for the fair treatment of students and teachers at Muriel Battle High School, and supporting the necessity for a principal who embodies the ideals of respect, inclusivity, and dedication to the welfare of every community member. Let us work together to restore a positive and nurturing atmosphere at our school. Please sign this student-made petition to make your voice heard.
