The Issue

To the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia and the Ministry of Transportation:**

**WHEREAS:**
* The 2003 Coastal Ferry Act transformed BC Ferries from an integrated public Crown corporation into a private, regulated company, shifting an unfair financial and operational burden onto coastal communities, workers, and everyday passengers.
* Reliable coastal ferry services are not a luxury; they are recognized as an essential marine "highway system" connecting the Sunshine Coast, Powell River (qathet), Vancouver Island, and the mainland.
* Decades of escalating fares, service reductions, and complex administrative structures have proven that the current commercialized model fails the communities it was meant to serve.

**THEREFORE, WE THE UNDERSIGNED** residents and users of the Sunshine Coast, Powell River (qathet), Vancouver Island, and coastal British Columbia call upon the Provincial Government to enact a formal review, redaction, and structural overhaul of the 2003 Coastal Ferry Act to return the ferry system to a fully accountable, publicly managed essential service.
