Revert the OSAP funding changes
The Issue
The Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) is a crucial lifeline for countless students in Ontario, offering financial assistance to those who might otherwise be unable to afford post-secondary education. As tuition fees continue to rise and the cost of living increases, the future funding allocations for OSAP are inadequate to meet the growing needs of students.
The allocation of OSAP funding for eligible students in the new school year will be reduced to a maximum of 25 per cent for grants, with funding for loans increased to a minimum of 75 per cent. Currently, students can receive a maximum of 85 per cent as grants, which do not have to be repaid, and a minimum of 15 per cent as loans that need to be paid back.
Reducing grants and increasing loans means students will graduate with significantly more debt at a time when the cost of living is already high and finding a job is hard. These changes make post-secondary education less accessible, especially for low and middle-income families, and place unnecessary financial pressure on young people trying to build their futures.
Join us in calling on the Ontario government to prioritize education and provide additional funding for OSAP. Sign this petition to make a real difference in the lives of students and support their right to affordable, accessible education. Your signature can help shape a brighter future for Ontario's youth.
