Revert Kirkwood High's New Homeroom System to the Original

Revert Kirkwood High's New Homeroom System to the Original

The Issue

Kirkwood recently implemented a new homeroom system that isn't much different than the system in the past, but different enough that it needs to be reverted back. In the past, students were allowed to make an e-hallpass to which ever teacher they needed help with to get work done. When they were finished or needed to go somewhere else, they could make another e-hallpass to their other desired location. This year, the new system works like so. On Infinite Campus there is something called a responsive schedule where you have until two days before homeroom to pick a teacher for the first block, and the same or different teacher for the second block. However, if you don't pick your teachers before Tuesday night (two days before homeroom) Infinite Campus will put you into two random classes that need students to fill up their room. Also, whichever homeroom you picked/forced to go to will take attendance at the start of the block and after that the teachers aren't allowed to let anyone leave until the next block. This includes going to the bathroom. Yes, teachers have been told by administration to not let students use the bathroom.

To recap:

  • You can no longer see more than just two teachers during homeroom, (the average Kirkwood High School student has 6 classes)
  • You can be put into a random class if you don't pick two teachers
  • You only get until the Tuesday before to pick your teachers (you get the bulk of your work that you may need help on the Wednesday and Thursday morning block)
  • You can't use the bathroom during homeroom
  • Teacher's aren't helping as many students as they used to be able to because half their class is made up of random students that aren't actually in their class.
