I, like many others, reside in the boroughs of Bromley and Bexley. We were never consulted when these areas were incorporated into Greater London in 1965 under the London Government Act. This decision was made without our consent or consideration of our community identity.

Bromley and Bexley have a rich history as part of Kent, with cultural ties that date back centuries. The shift to Greater London has impacted our local governance, funding allocation, and even our postal addresses.

Moreover, according to a 2016 YouGov poll, 23% of people living in outer London boroughs identify more with their historic county than with being a part of London (YouGov UK). This demonstrates a significant portion of residents who feel disconnected from the decision made over half a century ago.

We believe it's time for this issue to be revisited. We call on the government to conduct an official review into whether Bromley and Bexley should be returned to their rightful place within Kent's boundaries.
