As a student juggling education, extracurricular activities, and work, I am personally affected by the recent decision of our school district to extend the school hours for select high schools in our county from 9:35 am to 4:05 pm, ostensibly to limit bus use. This measure not only impedes upon my ability to successfully carry out my responsibilities but also affects numerous other students and families in our community. As it stands, such alteration in schedule does not pertain to all the schools. Why should only a select few high schools bear the brunt while elementary and middle school schedules remain unchanged?

These new hours, which were decided without proper consultation of the students who are most impacted, exhibit an utter disregard for our needs and responsibilities. Moreover, the already stressful environment is fraught with additional strain due to this extension, hampering our productivity and mental wellness.

Furthermore, while the county administration splurges our taxes on aesthetic elements such as palm trees, it cries broke when it comes to critical amenities such as the school bus system. This priorities mismatch not only encourages wasteful spending but also disavows the interests of the student community.

We urge the county administration to reverse this decision and make a concerted effort to make decisions that reflect the genuine needs and perspectives of all within their jurisdiction. It's time for our voices to be heard. Sign the petition to help rectify this unjust policy change.
