Reverse the Decision to Remove Rubbish Bins from Kingston Beaches

The issue

The Labor Kingston Council has recently decided to remove all rubbish bins from the beaches, spanning from Mentone down to Chelsea. This has outraged local residents, as it will cause an increase in rubbish along the foreshore, and amplify water pollution, negatively impacting our treasured natural environment.

As summer approaches, the issue can only worsen, significantly harming our beach experience. We all know that beach litter can harm wildlife and degrade water quality.

The photo was taken by me opposite the Mentone Lifesaving club on Tue Oct 1. We can already see garbage and dog poo bags along the beach and this is directly due to the rubbish bins being removed.

Kingston Council needs to understand that roads, rates and rubbish are NOT beyond them. They are core services, which ratepayers fund and they need to do it properly.

This community petition seeks that Kingston Council take immediate action and #PutBackTheBins, ensuring safe, clean, and enjoyable beaches for everyone. In addition, we ask how this was able to get passed through Council in the first place?!

Please, sign this petition and let your voice be heard for the sake of our beaches.
