UPCOMING PUBLIC MEETING NOTICE:

The Erin Citizens' Coalition is hosting a public meeting this Thursday, May 21 at 7PM at the Hillsburgh Public Library. All are welcome! Come with your questions and concerns. Tell your neighbours! Tell your friends!

**We need your help to protect the Town or Erin, Ontario from a decision that could devastate our community.**

In January 2026, the Erin Council approved a commercial fill operation at the Hillsburgh Pit on 27 Sideroad (9516 27 Sideroad). This decision poses a grave threat to our health, our quality of life, our environment, and the very fabric of the community of Erin. It also sets a dangerous precedent, opening the door for more pit fill operations in Erin since there are numerous gravel pits at or near their end of their life throughout the township.

The approval of this fill operation means an influx of more heavy trucks (average of 150 truck arrivals daily), increased dust and noise pollution, and the risk of contaminating our local water supply. The estimated duration of this project ranges from 10-20 years, depending on the source being referenced. The truck haul route is also deeply troubling and poses significant safety concerns. The haul route includes Trafalgar Road south and north through downtown Hillsburgh, past Ross R. MacKay Public school, past the arena, and past Barbour Field, 7AM to 7PM, 5 days week.

We cherish our peaceful environment, the clean air, and the safe streets where our children play. This quality of life is now under direct threat.

Environmental concerns also underline this issue significantly. The operation threatens to disrupt local wildlife habitats and could lead to long-term ecological damage. The lands surrounding the Hillsburgh (former Strada) Pit are home to diverse species and natural beauty. It’s essential that we safeguard these irreplaceable natural resources for future generations; let's preserve and appreciate what green space is left in Erin.

Moreover, local businesses and the economy could suffer as a result of reduced property values and truck congested roads. People choose to live and visit Hillsburgh for its natural charm and tranquility, all of which could be jeopardized by not reversing this decision.

We, the residents of Hillsburgh, have voiced our concerns, but now we need a broader support to make our voices heard. We urge you to sign this petition and to contact Erin Council and insist that council reverse their approval of by-law 26-16 which extends the lifetime of the site alteration agreement from 2 years to 20 years. Without this approval, this project cannot proceed as planned. Visit www.ErinCitizensCoalition.org for more information.

Please join us in taking a stand. Together, we can make a difference. Sign and share this petition to help put an end to the Hillsburgh Pit fill operation and protect the community we love.
