Reverse the decision on speed cameras in Ontario

Reverse the decision on speed cameras in Ontario
The Issue
Kids across the Ontario, including my own daughter, can’t cross our residential street without fear of being killed. Every day I worry about her safety because of the reckless speeding that occurs on our streets. The removal of speed cameras by the Government of Ontario has exacerbated this danger, leaving our children vulnerable.
Speed cameras play a critical role in enforcing speed limits and deterring dangerous driving habits in residential areas, especially near schools and playgrounds. According to the World Health Organization, speed is a key risk factor in road traffic injuries, contributing to approximately one in three of all road traffic fatalities in high-income countries. By reinstating speed cameras, we can reduce this risk and save lives.
The decision to remove these cameras overlooks the safety and well-being of our communities. Cities across the province, which have implemented speed cameras, have seen significant reductions in speeding incidents and accidents. Studies repeatedly show that speed cameras effectively reduce speeding, which in turn leads to fewer severe crashes.
The safety of our children should never be compromised. We need to prioritize their lives over our convenience. By reinstating speed cameras, we are taking a proactive approach to safeguard our streets and ensure our children can walk, bike, and play without fear.
Let us come together and urge the Government of Ontario to reverse its decision and reinstate speed cameras in community safety zones. Your signature can make a difference in creating a safer environment for all our families. Please sign this petition and help protect our children’s future.
