Petition updateReverse the decision on speed cameras in OntarioPetition Update: Your Signatures Reached Queen’s Park — And This Fight Isn’t Over

Hello everyone,

I want to share an important update with you.

Thanks to your support, this petition has already made a real impact. The list of signatures was formally taken to Queen’s Park, and MPP Peggy Sattler raised the issue directly in the Legislature.

But as many of you know, the issue is far from resolved.

Despite widespread concern about the removal of Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE), the province moved ahead with banning cameras in school zones and community safety zones. Communities across Ontario are asking: What will this mean for children walking to school? For the elderly crossing busy streets? For the growing number of near-misses we see every day?

These questions deserve clear, evidence-based answers. And we don’t have them yet.

In response, I will soon be launching a province-wide research project examining what happens after ASE is removed. This study will look at speeds, near misses, traffic patterns, and lived experience in multiple municipalities, because decisions that affect children’s safety should be grounded in data, not ideology.

Several municipalities have already expressed interest in participating, and I’ll share more details about the study, including and how you can stay connected, in the coming months.

For now, I want to reiterate this:
Your voices reached Queen’s Park.
And together, we are not done.

Please continue sharing this petition widely. Every signature strengthens the collective call for evidence-based public safety policy.

Thank you for standing up for safer streets across Ontario,

Dr. Carrie Mitchell
