We are parents of a three year old on the West End of Toronto, and the founders of Parents Against Speeding. We are working to organize parents and others to defend the speed safety camera program. Recently, we organized the event in the picture, which has received quite a bit of positive coverage in the press.
As part of that continued effort, we are trying to organize a provincial "day of action" on October 20th, the day the legislature reconvenes and the day the premier has promised to table legislation that would kill this life-saving road safety program. See flyer below.
We currently have events planned for Toronto, Vaughan, Midland, and a few other locations. We are hoping to expand this number, if possible. Obviously we don't have much time.
It's with that in mind that we wanted to send out an open call for more event organizers to participate. We figured some of you may either be interested in organizing something yourselves, or may know someone who is. Individual events don't need to be big to add up to something significant.
We do think it's important to make as much noise as possible, and we don't have much time to do it.
We've provided some additional resources here:
Speed Safety Camera Factsheet
Organizing a Local Event Toolkit
Coalition Letter
The new Speed Cameras Save Lives website which is super helpfully centralizing a lot of this information. There is a nifty countdown clock, too.
