The Issue

My name is Arjun(Name Changed), and I’m a college student living in Bengaluru. Every day, I travel from my PG in BTM Layout to my college in Koramangala. Like most students, I don’t own a vehicle, and autos are either too expensive or refuse short-distance rides. That’s why bike taxis were a lifesaver for me.

They were affordable, fast, and reliable. I could attend my classes on time, go for my part-time job after college, and still manage everything within my limited student budget.

Since the government banned bike taxis, my daily commute has become a nightmare. Fares have doubled, and most days I have to wait endlessly for transport or walk long distances. It’s not just inconvenient it’s stressful and exhausting. I’ve even missed lectures and job shifts because I couldn’t find a ride on time.

I know I’m not the only one. Thousands of students across Bengaluru used bike taxis every day. We relied on them not as a luxury but as a basic necessity.

his ban is hurting students, working youth, and anyone who can’t afford a car or expensive cab rides. Instead of banning bike taxis, the government should regulate them make them safer, formalize the system, but don’t take away something so essential.

Please, bring back bike taxis. We need them.
