Reverse Roblox Corporation's latest upload fee updates
The Issue
Roblox has for a long time been a top-ranking platform for creativity, collaboration, and virtual entrepreneurship, helping millions of creators and developers around the world express themselves and create experiences and various assets (such as clothing, models, 2D & 3D assets, etc.) in an accessible, creator-friendly environment with affordable, low publishing fees, further encouraging new generations of developers to pursue their own dreams on the platform and eventually generate a profit.
However, Roblox's recent upload fee update and new versions, such as Roblox Kids and Roblox Select, have placed an unfair financial burden on these creators, discouraging them from continuing to develop and publish new popular games, as well as publishing new 2D and 3D assets that should be affordable to regular Roblox players.
To summarize, Roblox had issued new updates with new fees, including:
> Unifying 2D and 3D Avatar Item Publishing - increasing uploading price of 2D asset from 10 to 200 robux, and decreasing uploading fee of 3D assets from 300 to 200 robux + have an active Roblox Plus
> Expedited Review Fee - a 100 000 robux fee including fast-tracked review process for Roblox game to become eligible for the Roblox Kids (ages 5–8) and Roblox Select (ages 9–15) categories, avoiding the standard requirement of 500 highly engaged players over 60 days.
> Publishing tiers and requirements - includes refundable 1000 robux fee or have an active Roblox Plus subscribtion for consistentual 2 months to make a Roblox game accessible for all ages.
These overpriced uploading fees of various assets and games place a big chunk of creators in danger, shaking the game's economy and slowly withdrawing a vast community of independent and small creators from the platform and forcing them to move to other games and engines because they are struggling to pay such fees for assets that aren't even expected to have that high turnover.
We understand the needs of the Roblox Corporation, that monetization of such tools is needed for them to hold such a vast sandbox game alive; however, we also believe that the balance between corporate sustainability and creator accessibility should be restored.
By this petition, we seek the restoration of this balance, reversal of all mentioned updates, and reinstatement of the creator-friendly environment. We also encourage Roblox Corporation to discuss incoming updates with the community and avoid any controversies and steps that could lead creators to withdraw from the Roblox platform.
Sign this petition, stand with creators, and support a creative, inclusive, and accessible Roblox platform for everyone.
