The Issue

CACE (Cumbernauld Action for Care of the Elderly) Day Support has been a lifeline for many vulnerable older people in our communities across Cumbernauld, Kilsyth, and the Northern Corridor. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, it opens its doors to provide care, companionship, and support to those who need it most. The CACE Day Support Services offer more than just care; they offer hope and friendship to those who might otherwise feel isolated and lonely.

Recently, North Lanarkshire Council decided to cut funding to these essential services, a decision that directly impacts the lives of countless vulnerable older people who rely on this support as well as their unpaid carers. This decision places an undue burden on those least equipped to handle it -  the impact will be profound.  Friendships are built.  Confidence grows. Isolation is reduced. CACE cares deeply about every individual we support.

In a 2019 Age UK report, it was revealed that over 1.4 million elderly individuals in the UK suffer from loneliness and isolation, conditions that can have severe consequences on both physical and mental health. CACE Day Support helps combat this by providing a warm, welcoming, safe space where participants can connect with others, engage in activities, and receive the assistance they need to maintain their independence.  Individuals receive CACE's unique door-to-door transport which gives them and their family members peace of mind that the person remains safe in our care throughout.

By cutting funding to CACE Day Support Services, we are risking the well-being of our Service Users and ending the lifelines they desperately depend on. We must urge North Lanarkshire Council to reconsider its decision. Restoring the funding can ensure that these services continue, safeguarding the dignity and quality of life for our elderly population.

This isn't just about money; it's about compassion, community, and responsibility. We owe it to our older people to provide them with the care and support they so rightly deserve. Let's stand together to reverse the council's decision and ensure that no elderly person in Cumbernauld, Kilsyth, and the Northern Corridor is left without the support and companionship they need.

Please sign this petition to show North Lanarkshire Council that we value our elderly, and we demand the restoration of the vital CACE Day Support Services.
