The decision by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) to reduce the speed limit on the I46 highway from 45 mph to 35 mph has raised significant concerns among motorists. Contrary to the aim for increased safety, this drastic change may further exacerbate traffic problems, leading to increased incidences of road rage and congestion. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has reported that lower speed limits can sometimes lead to increased variance in vehicle speeds, contributing to more accidents. Therefore, we respectfully urge INDOT to reconsider this decision. Understanding the need for safety on our roads, we propose that a comprehensive, independent study be conducted to determine the most effective and safe speed limit for this highway.
