The Issue

Two days after the conclusion of the Kitsap Fair and Stampede (KFSA), we received a distressing email. As 4-H parents, we were informed that the Kitsap County WSU program staff, representing Washington State University, had decided to withdraw the 4-H program's support for future fairs. At the council meeting that followed, our questions and concerns were met with evasive and indifferent responses, leaving us frustrated and unheard. It felt as though the decision was set in stone without any transparent communication or regard for the impact on our children and community.

4-H is more than just an activity for our children; it's a community that builds character, teaches responsibility, and encourages growth through hands-on experiences at events like the Kitsap Fair. This program has been an essential part of our local tradition, offering invaluable learning opportunities for young participants. The abrupt decision to withdraw damages not only this year's event but the future aspirations of our children who benefit immensely from participating in the fair.

It is crucial to understand the implications of such a decision. According to the National Institute of Food and Agriculture, 4-H programs are known to help young participants develop crucial life skills. The decision to pull support from the Kitsap County Fair denies our children these benefits without clear justification or consultation. We, the concerned parents and community members, demand clarity and a chance to participate in a dialogue where our voices are equally valued.

We are calling on the WSU Kitsap County 4-H program staff and Washington State University to reconsider and reverse this decision. If they choose not to, they owe our community a thorough explanation of the reasoning behind their actions. Transparent communication is essential for maintaining trust and ensuring that our children's interests remain at the forefront.

Please join us in demanding accountability and support for our children's future. Sign this petition to urge the authorities to reverse their decision and reinstate 4-H support for the Kitsap County Fair. Together, let us stand united for the betterment of our community's youth and hold those in power accountable for their actions.
