The Issue

As a disabled and housebound US Army Veteran, I am deeply troubled by the state of the VA Healthcare system. I've witnessed countless comrades, my brothers and sisters in arms, being denied essential medical treatment for their service-connected disabilities. This is not just a distant issue; it’s personal. I, too, have experienced the harsh reality of having critical medical services stripped away from me, despite the fervent objections of my dedicated medical care team.

The VA Healthcare system, designed to serve those who have served our nation, is failing us. Reports and testimonials from veterans nationwide highlight chronic underfunding, inefficient bureaucracy, and outdated practices. According to the National Academy of Medicine, the Department of Veterans Affairs requires significant modernization to meet the current healthcare needs of veterans. Veterans are waiting months, sometimes years, for appointments and treatments they desperately need.

We need action now. Our government must commit to revamping the VA Healthcare system, ensuring it is adequately funded, technologically updated, and equipped to provide timely and comprehensive care to every veteran. This includes investing in state-of-the-art electronic health records systems, increasing staffing levels with qualified healthcare professionals, and expanding telehealth services to reach those who are housebound.

Additionally, implementing outcome-based evaluations for VA facilities will ensure consistent improvements in the quality of care provided. By leveraging partnerships with civilian healthcare systems, we can alleviate some of the load on VA facilities and ensure veterans access to necessary medical services without delays.

These changes are not merely suggestions but necessities. We owe it to our veterans who have sacrificed so much for our country. It’s time for America to honor its commitment to its veterans by building a healthcare system that reflects the high standards they set while serving our nation.

Join me in urging Congress and the Department of Veterans Affairs to take swift action to modernize the VA Healthcare system. Please sign this petition to make sure every veteran receives the care and support they have rightfully earned through their service.
