Revamp the Meal Plan System at Mercy University

The Issue

I have personally been affected by the food services and residential meal plan as a dorming student at the Dobbs Ferry campus at Mercy University. Have you?

The current meal plan costs of $2000 per semester represent a considerable investment for students, and unfortunately, the return on this investment has been consistently disappointing. We have experienced recurring issues with the quality of food served in our two dining facilities. Often meals are either overcooked, undercooked, bland, or unavailable due to empty stations. This lack of availability not only undermines the value of the meal plan but also poses a significant inconvenience to students relying on these dining options.

How is the Hudson View Cafe promoted as an "all you can eat" location, when there isn't even proper food there at times?

Furthermore, the malfunctioning of machines and kitchen equipment has become a frequent occurrence, such as faulty soda machines or broken ovens, contributing to the overall decline in food quality and variety. This situation is detrimental for students who depend on campus dining as their primary source of sustenance. It adversely affects our academic performance, health both physically and mental, and overall campus experience.

We petition the administration to consider the following:

1. Let us choose our meal plans. Allow us to choose between ALL plans such as commuter meal plans, or give us the option to not choose a meal plan at all. We are grown adults and we deserve to decide what we spend our money on- especially when continuously disappointed and neglected by dining services.

2. Improve your food services. We are tired of seeing food flourish in the first few weeks of the semester, and then completely fall off into it when new students are settled in. We are tired of walking into Hudson View Cafe and see a couple of fries only, and a few dry salad leaves. Tired of walking to Vic cafe in the mornings and not being able to order a smoothie in the morning because they're understaffed. Tired.

3. Hear students out and actively be transparent with your communication going forward when it comes to dining services and the upgrades it needs.

We sincerely believe that by addressing these issues, students and administration can come together and make the food service on campus a pleasant experience for everyone, and promote an inviting space that no longer is seen as mostly negative.

Sign this petition to show the administration at Mercy University that we need change urgently. The spring semester is about to commence, and we are done waiting for changes and being told things are better when they aren't. We are the ones living here every day, we are the ones dealing with these issues.

We want control of our nutrition.
