The Issue

Mountain View Park, located in the Twelve Oaks neighborhood of Chandler, AZ, has long been a favorite gathering place for local families. However, the current playground design has left many parents and children feeling disappointed and frustrated. Children quickly lose interest with the available structures and settle on playing on the few swings that are available. The equipment, while modern and visually interesting, lacks the excitement and variety that make a playground truly fun. It seems like more effort was put into making the structures look interesting then actually taking into consider what children enjoy playing on.

Classic favorites like slides, swings, and monkey bars have been replaced with abstract climbing structures that offer little in the way of creative or engaging play. Many children quickly lose interest because there’s nothing that encourages imagination, movement, or social play. The tall structure also poses a safety issue for the littlest patrons. Tall structures with steep drop offs and no slide is not what parents and children are looking for. What was once a lively, laughter-filled space now feels underwhelming and uninviting — especially for younger kids who want to climb, slide, and swing like they used to.

In addition, the current design is not inclusive for children with disabilities or limited mobility. There are few, if any, accessible play features such as ramps, sensory panels, or ground-level activities that allow all children to participate equally.

Families in our neighborhood are asking for a playground that brings back the joy and excitement of play — a space with equipment that challenges kids, sparks creativity, and welcomes everyone. By investing in more traditional, inclusive, and engaging play structures, Chandler can restore Mountain View Park as a vibrant, family-friendly destination that our community can be proud of once again. Let’s get these kids outside and playing again!

Join us in urging the Chandler City Council to prioritize the renovation of Mountain View Park's playground. Together, let's make it a safer, more inclusive, and fun space for all children. Sign this petition today to make your voice heard!
