Today it was announced that Federation Square will not host live sites for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This decision is a massive blow to football culture in Australia and to the thousands of fans who gathered at Fed Square during the 2006, 2022 and 2023 World Cups.

Fed Square has become the home of football in Melbourne during the World Cup. The scenes created there united Australians from all backgrounds and showed the passion of the world game in this country.

Instead of improving security and event management, football fans are being punished for the actions of a small minority. Fans deserve better.
