I'm emailing to let you all know that our efforts to convince the ASUC to pass a resolution in favor of not just the continued operations of the George and Mary Foster Anthropology library, but also the hiring of a full-time librarian and expansion of its operational hours, was a resounding success. This could not have been done without the testimony of our student librarian Jesús Gutiérez, professors Mariane Ferme, Jun Sunseri, and Junko Habu, graduate student Shelby Medina, undergraduate students Anyrah Doty, Marissa Grimes, Amilia Romero Flores, Ellie French, and the dozens of others who showed up to support us and stand up for our library last night.
This is an incredibly important logistical step for us, but even more so for its symbolic value. The unanimous support of this legislation by our undergraduate representatives should be a sign of encouragement. We, as undergraduates, are the ones who pay for the operation of this university and through this measure we have told Carol Christ, the administration, and the university that our tuition comes with certain conditions. We have told them that one of those is the refunding of not just our library, but the library system across campus.
Thank you for your continued support in this fight and keep up the amazing work. I'm sure to be coming to you all with more good news soon.
