Dear Supporters of the George and Mary Foster Anthropology Library,

In the past two months, you all have volunteered your time and testimony on behalf of the George and Mary Foster Anthropology Library. For that, we are incredibly grateful. Your testimonies have made us allies here at Berkeley, but also in our international community of the humanities. We have spoken to our administration, we have spoken to the UC Board of Regents, and we have spoken to Chancellor Carol Christ; but they have not listened. When the Academic Senate, the representative body of our faculty, unanimously voted against the "Long-Term Space Plan," Carol Christ didn't listen. When the ASUC, the representative body of our undergraduate community, voted unanimously to refund our library system in response to your testimonies, Carol Christ ignored them.

Our Chancellor, it appears, is a dictator who cares not for the desires of the students but only for profit. This was affirmed to us in our meeting with the Chancellor. After forty minutes of testimony by students, graduate student researchers, and professors about the multifaceted purpose and importance of our centralized and curated library collection, it was clear to us that her mind remained unchanged. One of our graduate students asked Carol Christ, "If the testimony we've provided doesn't change your mind, what will?"

She laughed and  responded, "400,000 dollars would be a good start."

I'm emailing to ask for your help. The time to mobilize and be obstructive is now. If you live in Berkeley or the Bay Area, I'm asking you to fill out this form: https://forms.gle/ZKYcYJKoBbrM4vJc9. We need your help, and we need to know how many people are coming so that we can prepare. I look forward to seeing you all soon.
