Historically, Sundays have been for church, prayer, and family, where children and adults have an opportunity to take a day of rest from a busy week, to head to their church for prayer, praise, Word and Sacrament.

Over the past 20 or so years, the public schools across America have slowly chipped away at this important day, adding more and more activities such as athletic games or other extracurriculars to the students' schedule.  Parents are forced to skip church so they can drive their kids to games far from home.  Children are forced to put a Sunday rest and time with their Lord on the back burner in order to stay on the team or play in the band.

This monstrosity is not only making for children with a dwindling faith, it is hurting families and making a mess of priorities over several generations.

As a pastor, I see the effects of this every day.  Kids and teenagers are living lives without church, without God, and instead turning to things like sex and drugs, social media, video games, and cellphones for their fellowship and comfort.  When they become adults, church and the faith is the last thing on their minds.

Right now is the best time to fix this epidemic of backward priorities brought about by a public school system that puts its want of money ahead of the kids' needs and faith.  We have a president and a congress who can fix this now, if only enough people show them that they are concerned.  Won't  you sign this petition and start to bring an end to our childrens' being taken over by schools?  Let's fight to give Sundays back to God and family so that generations of people might return to the Lord in repentance and prayer!
