The issue

Naamaroo, 6.17 hectares of bushland beside Lane Cove National Park in Lindfield, is up for sale again. The NSW Government has a short window to bring it back into public hands.  Penny Sharpe the Minister for Environment (NSW) - please support our call.

Naamaroo was part of the Moore Estate, the same estate whose trustees gifted 238 acres in 1938 to create Lane Cove National Park. The trustees kept the remaining land and later gifted it to the Congregational Church, which opened the Naamaroo Conference Centre in 1961. After church union in 1977 it became a Uniting Church facility, and for decades it served as a youth camp and community venue.

In 2022 it was sold to to The King’s School and now Naamaroo has been listed again for sale, with expressions of interest closing on November 11, 2026.

Why this matters

  • It belongs with the park. The land shares its origins with Lane Cove National Park and directly adjoins it. Adding it would make a natural, logical extension.
  • Bushland is irreplaceable. Large, connected parcels of native bushland this close to the Sydney CBD cannot be recreated once developed or fragmented.
  • Wildlife and habitat. Joining it to the national park protects wildlife corridors and the Lane Cove River catchment. The area is a vital habitat for native flora and fauna including wallabies, echidna, bandicoot, Powerful Owl and more.
  • Bushfire safety. The land includes a fire trail that backs onto homes in West Lindfield, including Booraba Avenue and Guyong Street. Public management would keep it properly maintained.
  • A community legacy. This land was gifted for community and youth use, and generations of young people enjoyed it. It shouldn’t end up as a development opportunity.

We the neighbours, residents and friends of Lane Cove National Park call on the NSW Government to work with the existing owners prior to any sale, to reincorporate the bushland, fire trail and community access into LCNP, to be managed by NPWS.
