Return Farm Animals to Chellberg Farm!

Return Farm Animals to Chellberg Farm!
The Issue
Chellberg Farm, nestled within the Indiana Dunes National Park, holds a special place in the hearts of many. The farm serves as a living testament to our agricultural heritage. Currently, however, the farm's only animal residents are the beloved chickens.
For many years, Chellberg Farm welcomed a variety of farm animals, including bovine (heifers, steer, cows, bulls) and sheep, which played an essential role in educating visitors about traditional farming practices. These animals were more than just inhabitants; they facilitated a tangible, interactive learning experience, helping people understand the origins of their food and clothing.
The presence of these animals fosters connections between employees, volunteers, and visitors. It allows many to develop a deeper appreciation for the intricate relationships within farm life. Visitors, especially children, often form bonds with these animals, leaving with a more thoughtful approach towards farming and sustainability.
However, these once-thriving aspects of Chellberg Farm have been diminished without the full cadre of animals. In order to preserve the unique educational and cultural heritage of Chellberg Farm, we urge the Indiana Dunes National Park to reintroduce livestock, such as bovine and sheep, back to the farm.
Reintegrating these animals can transform Chellberg Farm back into a vibrant educational resource that benefits the community and visitors alike. It will not only restore the farm's historic charm but also ensure that future generations can learn directly from a working farm environment.
We call on the administration of the Indiana Dunes National Park to recognize the importance of livestock in maintaining the historical authenticity and educational value of Chellberg Farm. By signing this petition, you are joining us in advocating for the cultural and educational preservation of this cherished historic site. Help us bring back the vitality of Chellberg Farm by returning its farm animals!
