Return Amtrak Intercity Rail Service to Phoenix, Arizona

Return Amtrak Intercity Rail Service to Phoenix, Arizona
The Issue
As a frequent visitor of Phoenix, Arizona - the second largest city in the United States without an intercity rail line - I have personally experienced the inconvenience and limitations this lack of infrastructure brings. Our city is vibrant and growing, yet we are missing a vital transportation link that could connect us to other major cities and metropolitan areas.
Amtrak's Sunset Limited route once served Phoenix until 1996 when it was rerouted to Maricopa, in neighboring Pinal County, Arizona due to track maintenance issues. Since then, our city has been left off the map for intercity rail service. This is not just about convenience; it's about accessibility, economic growth, environmental sustainability, and quality of life.
Intercity rail service can be a catalyst for economic development by connecting businesses with wider markets and bringing tourists into our city. It can also provide an environmentally friendly alternative to driving that aligns with our commitment to sustainability.
The Following new stations will be served on this route
Tucson, Arizona
Marana Arizona
Coolidge Arizona
Queen Creek Arizona
Tempe Arizona
44th Street/ Sky Harbor Airport
Downtown Phoenix Arizona
Cities of Avondale and Goodyear Arizona
and Buckeye Arizona
We kindly urge Amtrak and relevant authorities to reconsider their decision and bring back intercity rail service to Phoenix in order to complement their existing station in Maricopa, We believe that reintroducing this service would greatly benefit both visitors like myself who yearn for more transportation options as well as contribute significantly towards our city's growth.
when it returns to Phoenix Arizona the Sunset Limited will terminate there temporarily until an extension to Los Angeles along Interstate 10 is built while the Texas Eagle will terminate at San Diego via the cities of Maricopa and Yuma,
Please sign this petition if you agree that it's time for Phoenix to be reconnected with America through intercity rail service.
