Good Afternoon Everyone,
On December 14th, 2020 the MLB team, The Cleveland Indians, officially retired their race-based athletic identity after "...conducting an extensive process to learn how [their] team name affected different constituencies and whether it aligned with [their] organizational values."
My question is simple: If the largest sports organization in the United States, that utilized the 'Indian' as a mascot, has unequivocally determined that an 'Indian' mascot is incapable with institutional morals and values, why should Mahopac continue utilizing the exact race-based athletic identity deemed unfit for Major League Sporting Organizations?
Today I am requesting you to contact the Mahopac Board of Education to demand justice for indigenous people by retiring the 'Indian' as their mascot [You can find their email addresses here: https://www.mahopac.k12.ny.us/board_of_education_members
Speak up. Now is not the time to be complicit. See the attached image for the full statement. I am wishing you all a happy, healthy, and safe holiday!
~Sincerely,
Daniel Ehrenpreis
