The Putnam County 535 school facilities proposal lacks full cost transparency and could create a significant financial burden on our taxpayers and the district for many years to come. When the proposal was unveiled, it was presented under the guise of improvement, promising better educational facilities and increased community value. However, it falls short in addressing significant concerns such as school safety and ADA accessibility, despite these being marked as key priorities. This discrepancy raises serious questions about the board's promises of prudence and responsible planning, leaving us to wonder whether the community's trust is being leveraged without complete honesty.

We are now faced with an urgent situation where the financial implications of the proposal are not entirely clear in both total costs and relevancy of the current plan being the best financial solution. For whichever plan is best for the student, staff and taxpayers, it is crucial for the Board of Education to provide a transparent breakdown of all costs involved, including any additional expenses that might arise during implementation. There should be a comprehensive funding plan clearly demonstrating how these expenses will be managed without overburdening the taxpayers. This transparency was a promise to voters in 2025.

Additionally, the community deserves to have a complete picture of how this venture will impact Putnam County in the long-term. Without this information, the board cannot make informed decisions that affect not only us but also future generations. Transparency is a fundamental aspect of democracy, and all stakeholders, especially residents directly affected by these decisions  should have the opportunity to review all pertinent information and voice their concerns or approvals.

We urge the Putnam County Board of Education to delay any vote on this proposal until a full disclosure of the costs, funding plan, and impacts is made available as promised from the 2025 election campaign by the members of the Better Way for PC Schools Board of Education Team per Section E of their article posted in the Putnam County Record for the commitment of transparency. Our community should not be a bystander in decisions that hold vast implications for our economic and educational landscape.
