Hello to our wonderful neighbors and supporters,
We’re incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support on this issue. Today at 11:30 am, legal counsel for Monongalia County Schools Board of Education (BOE)—sadly paid for by our taxpayer dollars—appeared in court to request full ownership of the Suncrest Primary School property with the right to use the land in the heart of our neighborhood for any purpose they wish—including warehouses, bus garages, and other uses.
Here’s the good news: Judge Cindy Scott has determined that filings should be considered from the Suncrest Neighborhood Association and the City of Morgantown—as both attempt to stop this overreach by BOE to grab title and control of the land against the wishes of the city, the neighborhood, and the original deed.
Our goal remains the same: to honor the original intent of the deed, which clearly states that if the property is no longer used as a school house, it should revert for public use as a community park. We’re actively working with the City and BOPARC to make that vision a reality.
Many of you have asked how you can help. Thank you, again. While we’re NOT asking anyone to promote this petition with funds through change.org, contributions to the Suncrest Neighborhood Association (SNA) are welcome and appreciated. These funds will help cover legal expenses or support broader neighborhood initiatives if contributions exceed legal needs. Maybe the funds can be used to procure some nice features at the new park!
