Retain Historic Kyneton Primary School Site as an educational precinct before it is lost!

With the vacation of the current state primary school to a brand new site in Kyneton, the vacant premises will become an attractive, focal point to the township, with the growth in population driving strong redevelopement opportunity. With its central location and accessibility to the community as a whole, this site must remain in the hands of the community. The rich historical significance the school has played over the past 150 years deserves to be continued as a learning centre for trades, skills and makers of many diverse crafts. Skills that established the regions prosperity, as far back as the gold rush.
In an era of mass globalisation, establishing a precinct that welcomes rare arts and forgotten trades would not only provide opportunities for our children to pursue manual trades of significance, but continue many decades of skill and knowledge that could quite easily be lost.
This site is currently up for consideration as to the purpose and future place it can find in our diverse community. Our proposal is to extinguish the chance it falls into the hands of unscrupulous developers, forever scarring the landscape of our beautiful town.
There are many stages involved in retaining the site in community hands. Bureaucracy, both local, state and federal will impact the process.
What we need more than anything else at this point is community support. Let us not in 10 years time say "we should have done something about that". We have the opportunity to create something worthy, something great for future generations; for our children to say "look what our parents helped to create for us". The Historical Kyneton Primary School Site has always been about inspiring minds, education and learning. It was built as a place to teach.
Please become a part of this petition to ensure the future of inclusive community learning is preserved, and the site maintained as a community space, for future generations to be proud of.
