Resume Construction At Ruskin High School

Resume Construction At Ruskin High School
The Issue
In the Summer of 2020 we were promised renovations to our school. A new gym, auditorium, cafeteria, main office and football field. As we approach the summer of 2022, we still do not have the things we were promised. We may have our cafeteria open, but it is bare bones and has dangerous cables hanging down. The theater department has to go to the theater at the nearby middle school for practice and our gym has been stripped down with little to no progress, as well as having students attend gym/JROTC while the floors were covered in dangerous spikes and nails. The construction workers just stand around all day, and there is materials lining the hallways that has not been touched since it was put there. The workers have been overheard talking about how they barely make enough on this job. We are told that our taxes have been going towards the schools construction but if that was the case it would have been done MONTHS ago, which brings the question of where the money is going. We want our school back.
Our demands are
- Pay the workers more
- Be punctual with how you rebuild the school
- Don't force students to go to rooms/classes with safety hazards due to the construction
-Be more transparent about what our taxes are being used for
Sincerely, Mx. Harris, Junior student at Ruskin High school on behalf of all the students.
