Restructure Cannon County's Parks and Fairground Department for Better Recreation

The Issue

As a resident of Cannon County, TN, USA, I have seen firsthand how our children lack access to quality parks and recreational activities outside of school-based programs. This is not just a personal concern; it affects the overall health and well-being of our community's youth.

Our current Parks and Fairground department has been unable to adequately address these needs. Therefore, we are calling for the restructuring of this department into two separate entities: The Parks and Recreation Department and the Fairgrounds Department.

By separating these departments, we can ensure that each receives the focus it deserves. A dedicated Parks and Recreation Department will be better equipped to improve existing parks, create new ones where needed, and develop diverse recreational programs that cater to all age groups in our county.

On the other hand, an independent Fairgrounds Department can concentrate on maintaining our fairgrounds' infrastructure while planning exciting events that contribute positively to our local economy.

According to a study by Penn State University (2014), communities with high-quality park systems tend to have lower rates of obesity among children. Moreover, research from Stanford University (2015) shows that regular participation in outdoor activities can significantly reduce stress levels in young people.

Let us take action now for a healthier future for Cannon County's children. Sign this petition today if you believe in creating better parks and recreation opportunities through restructuring our local government departments.
